In a move that could shift the landscape of pre-roll production in North America, Accelerant Manufacturing has announced that it will begin operating Swiss Cones pre-roll cone machines in the United States, with live industry demos scheduled following an official ribbon-cutting at their new Iowa facility on May 1, 2025.

The Iowa-based site offers over 100,000 square feet of manufacturing potential, signaling a significant investment in domestic production capabilities. According to company representatives, the central location is expected to allow faster, more efficient service to both East and West Coast cannabis operators.

“This is about more than just logistics—it’s about future-proofing the pre-roll industry,” said Grant Schuster, CEO of Accelerant Manufacturing. “With increasing uncertainty around international tariffs and supply chains, U.S.-based manufacturing offers stability.”

Currently, the majority of pre-roll cones are produced overseas using manual labor. Industry insiders say this dependency leaves cannabis producers vulnerable to delays, tariffs, and rising costs. By moving production stateside, Swiss Cones offers a potential buffer against these global disruptions.

Addressing a Growing Pain Point in Pre-Roll Cone Supply

Recent discussions in the cannabis manufacturing space have spotlighted the risks associated with pre-roll cone shortages, particularly as demand for pre-rolls continues to grow. Accelerant’s initiative appears to be a direct response to those concerns—offering automated, scalable cone production at home, while reducing reliance on foreign imports.

The company also revealed new intellectual property that enables laser engraving on cones, a feature that opens the door to branded customization, artwork, and even anti-counterfeit measures like scannable QR codes.

Beyond Cones: Full-Spectrum Manufacturing

Accelerant Manufacturing is also ramping up production of its pre-roll automation solutions at its Maryland and Missouri facilities. This includes the GrindPRO™ and GrindPRO Mini™ milling systems, the PRO2™ pre-roll production platform, and the CoatPRO™ for kief-coating—all of which will now be manufactured domestically.

Initially launching with ceramic tips, the new Swiss Cones line will soon expand into custom crutches with branding and “banding” options, offering cannabis brands more flexibility in product presentation and design.

A Fast-Moving Development

While many industry shifts take time, the rollout of Swiss Cones has moved with notable speed. From concept to manufacturing, the process unfolded in a matter of months—an uncommon pace for infrastructure projects of this scale in cannabis.

For cannabis producers concerned about ongoing supply chain vulnerabilities, this announcement marks a significant milestone in domestic self-sufficiency and pre-roll innovation.
