Several types of machines are used during the testing process, all of which ensure product and labeling accuracy. When using gas chromatography (GC), the sample is injected into the machine, where heat and pressure are applied to convert the sample into a gas. This gas then passes through a column into a detector, where molecules are measured and results according to size and weight are provided.

High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HLPC) is another method used to test products. In this method, the sample is submerged in a liquid, and ultraviolet light is shot through the liquid. When the light comes through, the HLPC equipment counts the different molecules in the sample. With those numbers, potency by size and weight are then calculated.
