  • Where to Buy: Omura Vape and Flower Sticks

The Omura vape is a handheld vaporizer that relies on a novel technology called Flowersticks™. These small paper tubes essentially fuse the conventional handheld vape with pre-rolls for an entirely unique experience in the inhalable world.

More expensive than the low-end vapes like the Iven from E1011 Labs yet much more affordable than a Davinci, the Omura Vape Series X sits in the mid-range device category of consumer technology.

But, in my mind, the Omura feels expensive because the device itself has a nice weight to it, and its features are comparable to the higher-end devices, including the simple temperature control andcustom charger. And let’s not forget that unique Flowerstick technology.

What are Flowersticks™?

According to Omura, Flowersticks™ “are designed to be filled with a small amount (approximately 0.15 grams) of compressed ground flower, where the natural oils in the flower prevent it from falling out of the Flowerstick. Flowersticks act as disposable mouthpieces, and they are biodegradable and compostable.”

Flowersticks are sold in packs of four, eight, or 12. With 16 individual sticks inside every box, that works out to $2.75 to $3.75 per box (or, if you want to really crunch the numbers, $0.17 to 0.23 per stick).

Key Features

Hygienic

This is quite possibly the greatest selling point for anyone relying exclusively on vaporizers — you never need to clean the chamber. The Omura vape promises to stay completely hygienic, thanks to the disposable Flowerstick technology. That means no painfully cleaning out a gunked-up chamber, no rubbing alcohol, no swabs.

Because this is primarily a flower vape, where the flower is contained within disposable paper tubes, cleaning it is just a matter of pulling out the spent stick and replacing it with a fresh one. The Flowersticks also mean that it’s very easy to share with friends by swapping out the sticks between people.

Comfortable Design

The Omura has an ultra-smooth and comfortable design that feels nice in the hand. It has lovely rounded edges, no flashy logos, and simple light indicators along the front. The charging component is also elevated beyond a simple USB or USB-C cord. Instead, it’s a color-matched custom base that lets the Omura vape stand upright while plugged in.

I also like how the Series X has a nice heft. Something small with a bit of weight always makes a device feel more high-end than its price point might indicate.

Heat-Not-Burn Vape Technology

As a vape, the goal is to vaporize rather than burn the flower material, hence Omura’s promise of their Heat-Not-Burn technology. The Series X is unlike other vapes in the mid-range category because it only offers two settings: high heat (430F / 221C) and low heat (300F / 149C).

If you are a cannabis sommelier or a terp nerd, this may not be enough wiggle room for you to target a specific experience. For those who are new to cannabis or don’t care and always set the temperature on high anyway, the two-temperature options work just fine. It’s simple, but it’s still completely functional for a consumer like me.

Flowerstick Technology

The Flowersticks are Omura’s claim to fame, and after using this vaporizer for several months, I think it’s safe to say you either love it or you hate it. Personally, I liked the ability to fill a 16-box all at once (even if it was a bit messy).

As a child of the ‘80s, when every adult I knew rolled their cigarettes with what I thought looked like a VERY fun machine, there is something quite satisfying about a similar process for refilling the sticks. If you are heading to a social event or away for the weekend, I found the Flowerstick system to be convenient and a good conversation starter.

But my partner felt otherwise. After the first pack, he went back to rolling joints. Call it a force of habit, but he didn’t find himself reaching for the Omura because it was just easier to roll a joint or pack another vape that didn’t have this additional stick step.

Simplicity

Once you’ve filled the Flowersticks, the Omura vape is one of the simplest handheld flower vapes to operate. As soon as you insert a stick, it turns on. Then, to turn it off, all you have to do is remove the stick. There are also no complicated apps to control the temperature settings, which, in my opinion, is the downfall of more expensive devices.

Performance

The Vape Experience

If I could classify the Omura vape experience in a few words, it would be simple and effective. It doesn’t have a lot of buttons, apps, or temperature controls to overcomplicate the session. The two temperature settings get the job done, and it’s easy to pull long, deep draws from the sticks. I also loved how it didn’t get hot during each session.

But the most compelling feature is that you never have to clean it. Which, in my experience with other vapes (the Pax, the DaVinci, etc.), can be a very annoying process that has to happen all too often.

But the Flowersticks won’t be for everyone. By throwing a disposable element into the mix and with an additional step before the inhale, some people just won’t want to deal with it. Flowersticks aren’t as widely available as rolling papers, so you’ll have to re-order occasionally to keep using your vape.

Temperature Control

It’s simple, but for a consumer like me, it works. With a simple discreet toggle, you can move back and forth between the high and low-temperature settings, which Omura has set to target either a more intense cannabinoid-driven experience or a more flavor-forward one.

Battery Life

Compared to other handheld devices I’ve used, the battery life on this is quite impressive. You can get upwards of 12 sessions from a single charge, and the charge itself is fast (less than an hour).
