Plant Me When I'm Gone

How the Living Memorial Works

1. Hempcrete Outer Planter

The hempcrete outer planter is the permanent home of the memorial. It sits on a porch, in a garden, or on a windowsill — wherever the family chooses to tend the grow. A commemorative plaque bearing the person’s name and a QR code is affixed to the planter, linking permanently to their Digital Memorial Platform page. Every grow run, every milestone, every message delivered connects back to the planter in the family’s home.

2. Mycelium Vessel Insert

This biodegradable insert cradles a meaningful portion of cremated remains and is positioned below the growing medium, giving the plant space to establish healthy roots first. As the vessel gradually breaks down, it enriches the medium below and the roots grow down into it over time. The grow steward documents this process through the platform — uploading photos at each milestone, building a journal that captures the plant’s growth from the person it honors.

3. Guided Ritual Flow

The Digital Memorial Platform walks the family through every step. The person who purchases the kit sets it up while living — writing their biography, naming their grow steward, and composing messages tied to each milestone in the grow cycle. After the kit is placed, the platform prompts the grow steward at each stage: seed planted, first sprout, canopy, first flower, harvest. Each milestone unlocks a message, updates the grow journal, and notifies every family member with access. The ritual is not improvised. It was designed by the person being remembered.

The Digital Memorial Platform

The Digital Memorial Platform is the subscription engine, built around how a home grow actually works. No sensors, no cameras, no hardware beyond the phone already in the family’s pocket.

The person who purchases the kit builds the foundation while living. Before death, they log into the platform, create their memorial page, write a biography, upload photos, name a designated grow steward, select their strain, and compose a series of grow-locked messages. Those messages are held by the platform and released only when the family marks a grow milestone: seed planted, first sprout, canopy, first flower, harvest.

When the grow steward marks a milestone, that single action does three things at once: it releases the pre-written message to the named recipient, adds the photo to the grow journal attached to the memorial page, and sends a notification to every family member with portal access.

Weekly check-in reminders keep the journal active between milestones, creating a record visible to everyone the person authorized. Every photo, every milestone timestamp, every message delivered becomes part of the memorial record. The platform does not end when the first grow ends.

In home-grow states, the family continues from the same genetics indefinitely. In states that do not permit home cannabis cultivation, the same planter grows an herb, a flower, or any plant the family chooses. The digital memorial continues regardless of state law. The QR code on the planter does not expire.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the current status of the product development?

The Plant Me When I’m Gone kit is in pre-production. The hempcrete planter, mycelium vessel, and Digital Memorial Platform are fully designed. The provisional patent was filed April 20, 2026. Kits are available for preorder now.

When will the product be available?

We are accepting preorders now. Join the waitlist to be notified when kits ship and to lock in your place in the first production run.

Does the system use all of a person's ashes?

No. The mycelium vessel holds a meaningful portion of cremated remains, not the full volume. Families who wish to divide the remains across multiple memorials may order additional kits — one for a family home, one for a child who lives in a different city, one for a partner. Each kit carries its own QR code linked to the same memorial page, so every planter in every home connects back to the same person, the same grow journal, and the same record.

Are seed genetics included with the planter?

Seeds are not included with the kit at this time. The individual selects their strain or plant while living and sources genetics locally, through a licensed dispensary in cannabis states, or any nursery or garden supplier for herb and flower varieties. The Digital Memorial Platform records the strain selection as part of the memorial, regardless of where the genetics come from. We will update this page as seed partnerships and licensing develop.

Is cannabis the only option for the memorial planter?

No. The hempcrete planter and mycelium vessel support any plant. Cannabis is the primary option for individuals in states where home cultivation is legal and who want to grow a strain that represents them. For families in other states, or who simply prefer a different plant, the planter works equally well with herbs, flowers, or any plant of personal significance. The Digital Memorial Platform, the QR code, the grow journal, and the milestone messaging system are active regardless of what grows in the planter.

How does the memorial process work?

The individual who purchases the kit builds the foundation while living. They log into the Digital Memorial Platform, create their memorial page, write a personal biography, upload photos, name a grow steward from their family, select their strain or plant, and compose a series of messages addressed to specific people — one for each milestone in the grow cycle: seed planted, first sprout, canopy, first flower, harvest.

After the kit is placed, the grow steward marks each milestone by uploading a photo of the plant through the platform app. That single action does three things at once: it releases the message written for that milestone to the named recipient, adds the photo to the grow journal attached to the memorial page, and sends a notification to every family member with portal access.

Weekly check-in reminders keep the journal active between milestones. Every photo, every timestamp, every message delivered becomes part of the permanent memorial record. The platform does not end when the first grow ends. The QR code on the planter links to the memorial page indefinitely.

Can I choose the type of plant for the memorial?

Yes. The individual selects the plant while living as part of setting up the kit — whether that is a cannabis strain, an herb, a flower, or anything of personal significance. That choice is recorded in the platform and becomes part of the memorial record. Families may also choose a different plant for subsequent grows. The digital memorial, the grow journal, and the milestone messaging remain active through every grow run.
